Girl Talk is a student to student mentoring program that offers fun, positive weekly meetings, community service projects, and friendship-building activities for middle school girls led by high school leaders. Statistics show that girls that are mentored are less likely to drop out of school; less likely to join a gang; and less likely to become teenage mothers.

Turning Girls into Women

While mentoring is often viewed as the adult offering support to the child, Girl Talk provides girls an opportunity to develop relationships with their peers.  Often times the key ingredient needed for the growth of a health relationship is simply a strong relationship with a close friend that will provide them with positive support and encouragement.  The overall mission of Girl Talk is to increase girls’ sense of self worth while improving the girls’ perspective toward education and helping our girls to become self-sufficient and motivated.

Girl Talk will provide opportunities for our girls to visit museums, see a Broadway play, learn to cook a variety of ethnic foods, a most of all, help girls to develop and define their short-term and long-term goals.
