The Tom Joyner Foundation gives away a full-ride scholarship to a graduating high school senior who will attend a HBCU. More info.


Dr. Jason Black is the Principal Investigator of a recently awarded $552,000 NSF Grant entitled African-American Women in Computer Science. The grant provides scholarships from $4000 to $10,000 per year for female African American students. The full text of the press release can be found here.

The AAWCS program begins operation on July 1 and will run until June 30, 2012. For more information about the program and applications for the program can be requested by contacting Dr. Black at or (850) 412-7354.

is a national collection of photographs taken by teenage girls. The photos represent teenage girlhood and life as seen through the eyes of young women in the United States. The strongest images will be edited into a book and a traveling exhibit.

Participation is FREE! Just send an email to The Girl Project and they will send you a disposable camera for you take pictures of whatever YOU think best describes being a teen girl in the United States (visit their website for examples!).
